PREPARATION

Monopotassium phosphite can be obtained by neutralization reaction between phosphorous acid (H3PO3) and potassium hydroxide (or potassium carbonate)
H3PO3+KOH→KH2PO3+H2O

or

2H3PO3+K2CO3→2KH2PO3+CO2+H2O

APPLICATION

1) Monopotassium phosphite is used in formulation of foliar fertilizer and water-soluble fertilizer.
2) Monopotassium phosphite is used as fungicide to control Oomycetes (esp. Phytophthora sp), similar to fosetyl aluminium (Aliette).
